Lesson Plan: different kinds of writting
Grade level: Third grade
Length of lesson: 30 minutes
Topic: Comfortable writting tatics
Materials needed:
- Examples of the following:
- piece of poetry
- short story
- first person narrative
- fictional story
- non-fictional
- scienceficiton
- fairytale
- mystery
Learning Objective: Students will be able to identify four elements of a fiction story.
Procedure:
- Tell students that today we are going to identify the elements that make up a story.
- Explain that an element is an essential part of something and every fiction story has the same key elements: characters, setting, problem, and solution.
- Have the students think of the story
- Have the students think of the story hensle and grettle
- Begin a ficitonal story with the students with just the introduction sentence and relate back to hansel and grettle.
- Have the students create the rest of the story
- Go over with the students and have them underling their characters, setting, and stoy line.
- Have the students compare hansel and grettle and their own story.
- Ask students what kind of writting they used?
- Show an example of a story created by the teacher
- lastly, have students read thier writing to a partner and visce versa.
Assesment: Test students knowledge by picking a specific style of writing such as short story and allow the children to work individually to come up with a story that meets a criteria. The criteria can include introduction 3 detail sentences and a conclusion to wrap it up. This will allow the student to be creative as well as understand the style of writing that they are incorperating in their own piece. This focuses on the student being the center focus of their own piece of writting as well as being able to express thei imagination.
